The Malta International Choir & Folk Festival
The Malta Inernational Choir & Folk Festival is now a firm feature on Malta's calendar of events. Originally conceived as a means of attracting visitors to the islands in the off-season, the festival proved an almost immediate success attracting choirs from many countries, including the 'home' of male voice choirs, Wales.
The 1995 festival was won by the Welsh, "Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir". The "Amadeus Chamber Choir" from Malta and the "Classica Mixed Choir" from Russia tied for second place. Third place was taken by another Welsh choir, the "Risca Male Choir".
The 1996 festival will be the 8th in the series and, for the first time, will include folk music. Participating choirs will be expected to prepare a programme of ballads and folk music from their respective countries or regions, or bring along their own folk groups. There will be a number of daytime performances around the islands.
