Fort St Elmo, the historic and brave fort at the tip of the Valletta peninsula, is now open to the public on weekends.
During Summer 1996 the National Tourist office of Malta will organise a forthnightly programme of military drills in period costume that date back to the time of the islands' occupation by the Knights of St John. The parades will take place in the fort's courtyard and include re-enactments of various drills and the changing of guard in the tradition of the Knights. The cast will include over 90 uniformed men representing officers, palace guards, pikemen, bombardiers and other ranks.
